All You Need to Know Before Your Adventure

Our aim is to make every visit to Fern Outdoor Adventures safe, enjoyable, and stress-free.

If you can’t find the answer you’re looking for here, just get in touch and we’ll be happy to help.

We always say: “There’s no such thing as bad weather, only inappropriate clothing!”

We recommend:

  • Clothing: Long trousers (not shorts) and a long-sleeved top, all year round, to protect arms and legs.
    • In summer: a thin long-sleeved t-shirt or base layer.
    • In winter: add a hoodie or jumper for warmth.
    • Avoid jeans – if they get wet, they become cold and uncomfortable. Jogging bottoms or similar are much better.
  • Outerwear: A waterproof jacket is essential in wet weather. Waterproof trousers or a change of clothes are also highly recommended.
  • Footwear: Trainers are not suitable, as they provide poor grip on wet or uneven ground. We recommend wellies, walking boots, or sturdy walking shoes.

Please note: If your footwear is deemed unsafe, you may not be allowed to take part in activities.

No need! We’ve got you covered:

  • All sessions include drinks (hot and cold) and a light snack.
  • For activity days, a hot lunch and additional snacks are provided.
  • For special events, we can arrange catering for both children and parents (extra charge applies). Options include hot and cold meals, picnic boxes, and sweet cones.

Please ask for a quote when booking your activities.

We do have an on-site toilet. It’s a clean camping-style portable toilet in a toilet tent, stocked with wipes, toilet roll, and sanitizer.

Our long-term goal is to install a compostable toilet on site.

Parking is available at a public car park about 400m from the site. Full details will be emailed before your event.

  • Accessibility: With prior notice, we can arrange closer access for visitors with disabilities, though the ground is uneven and hilly.
  • Overnight stays: Vehicles will be parked securely behind a locked gate.

All our staff:

  • Hold enhanced DBS checks
  • Are fully qualified to deliver their activities
  • Have outdoor first aid certification

We are fully insured for all activities and have clear policies in place covering safeguarding, health & safety, equality, and social media use.

Copies are available on request.

We aim to make activities accessible to as many people as possible. However, please note:

  • The site is on private wooded land with uneven, hilly paths, which may not be suitable for everyone.
  • Please speak with us before booking so we can advise and do our best to accommodate your needs

Safety comes first.

  • Sessions will not run in high winds (as required by our insurance).
  • If we need to cancel due to unsafe weather, we’ll work with you to reschedule or offer a full refund.

Please let us know in advance of any allergies or dietary requirements. We’ll do our best to ensure your needs are met.

No – all specialist equipment is provided.

  • If you’d like to bring your own, let us know so we can check it’s safe and suitable.
  • Need advice on buying your own equipment? We’re happy to help.

For children attending without parents:
